I noticed you ranked San Francisco behind Dallas, not something I usually hear from people... what do you prefer about Dallas?
Its an ease of living issue. Dallas and DFW are unbelievably easy to live in. I would go so far as to say of all the major metro areas, DFW is the easiest place to live (cost of living, it still has 90% of the big city amenities, DFW airport, good food, cheap housing, traffic isnt too bad, decent economy, etc.). Thats why I put DFW ahead of San Francisco. San Fran is one amazing city, but its very difficult to live there due to the costs and its harder to spread out.
LA is home, so it will always be #1. Its expensive, but its not too hard to spread out. Chicago is my favorite city in the US and I enjoyed living there, but the weather is a deal breaker. Miami has perfect weather for me and excellent nightlife. But it would be harder to live there.
I tried to base my opinions on a combo of where I would want to live and visit. If it were just based on places to live, it would be LA, DFW, Houston, and Atlanta in that order.

I'm done with my list... (probably that same order too)
Glad to see the DC metro area high up on some of these lists. I agree it's a nice, interesting and dynamic region that has grown surprisingly quickly in the past few decades.
