I went to Tijuana while I was in San Diego. I wasn't impressed. So many desperate people there. Little kids came up to me asking to buy things from them. People everywhere were trying to sell the Americans all kinds of things. Poor infrastructure, no AC, etc. And on the way back to America there was this huge sign someone painted on a big board saying "This way to the United States" and had an arrow pointing to more Mexican shops and restaurants, while the United States was really the other direction. Thats how desperate they were to attract people.

What do you know, I found the sign on google maps. It says "To USA" and has an arrow. It was years ago so I forgot the exact words. But here it is..
I will always think of Tijuana as the poor man's San Francisco, and it has the potential, with its steep hilly terrain, to rival San Francisco one day, and, who knows, it may just happen.
Anyone ever gone to to the top of one of those steep hills there and enjoyed the sweeping vistas of downtown San Diego and the Bay? I will alwys envy, both the rich and poor, living up on those hills with those stunning views.
I've always felt that the Zona Norte bar/red light district, and the Plaza Santa Cecilia, should be put on the Mexican national historic registry, just like Guanajuato or Taxco. What other city can provide that? 50-60 bars all crammed together in a 4 block area. And all the times I've been there, over 13 years, all hours of the day and night, I have always felt as safe there as being across the border in San Sterility!
