Which city is better as far as nightlife, food culture(diversity and identity), entertainment(other things to do), friendly people, culture, politics, cost of living, crime, and overall quality of life?

Seriously? I've been to both. Buffalo BY FRIGGIN' FAR! Buffalo is a big sports city with awesome chicken wings so they get my vote automatically. On top of that - they are closer to Niagara Falls/Canada/Toronto. Also - Amherst (3rd or 4th safest place in America) is a suburb of Buffalo.

I'd go with Buffalo overall, but Providence has a thriving nightlife for a city of its size- Unemployment rates in Providence is sad from what I recall.

Providence has milder winters and has the Coast as an amenity. I was going to say Providence is closer to a big city (Boston), but Buffalo isnt far from Toronto either...

If going strictly by the cities themselves, I would pick Buffalo over Providence.

But then you have to factor in the weather and the location of the two cities. Buffalo is near Toronto and Providence is near Boston. Which is better Toronto or Boston? And the Niagara Falls area is loaded with things to do, does that trump Cape Cod?

So you see it not just the two cities themselves and it gets a little complicated.

Also, Brown and RISD are a fun crowd. I think this is seriously in Providence's favor.

Providence, it's an artsy city, kinda bohemian, and the people are surprisingly friendly. The College Hill neighborhood is the best. It's a college town, by far. Plus with Boston a 50 min train ride away, easy fun for a weekend. Plus it,s definitely a renaissance city.

As for Buffalo....you guys do realize to even go to Toronto or Nigagra Fall, ON, you will need a passport...if you're there for a night of partying, is that really worth it.

Yea, Toronto's more than three hours away from Buffalo. That's not really a short hop and skip away.

Buffalo to Toronto is a little over an hour and a half. Many people in that area of NY have enhanced drivers licenses which make it easier to get over the border.
