The 2nd most spoken language in every city in the US in Spanish. By quite a bit in most cases. Boston has less spanish speakers than most cities, and a lot more Portuguese and French speakers than most cities, but Spanish is still far and away #2.

about 50% of the legal immigrants coming into the country are from Mexico, so no other country/language comes close.

The French Territories have a history of French creole, but the language didn't get ingrained as much as the spanish did.

I know you love Texas, did you know that the French once ruled over Texas?
No, I didn't know. But it's not a surprise, Texas is near Louisiana, an ancient french territory sold by Napoléon 1er
But I'm sad for Louisiana, it's the most "french" state in the US but one of the poorest too

Seattle too ? Because the immigration is largely asian there.
I know Tagalog is the most-speaking foreign language in Anchorage in Alaska because filipinos are the main immigrant group there.

hmmm Seattle may not be Spanish. good call. Although it may be. Seattle people, thoughts?

And there are definitely smaller cities all around where other languages outrank Spanish. But for the major cities- it's all spanish (except maybe Seattle, and a few others I can't think of)

Renaud you're right, it is not the most spoken language in Seattle, and also not in Honolulu. (just looked it up)

Ah! Haiti!

I remember thinking "Why does Miami have so many French speakers?"

Totally forgot about Haiti

Thanks +1

The proximity has nothing to do with. The Spanish had the Mexican Territory and The French had the Louisiana Territory. The French, however was in possession of the Mexican Territory for a while.

Oh, my friend here in Houston is from Congo and he speaks French. I didn't know that they still spoke French in Congo
