I don't think people are really 'forgetting', I think these are just states that are irrelevant to people. That's all it is. It's kind of like Jim Carrey movies, I always forget he did the Cable Guy, but I still know he was in it...

Lol, I thought this thread was mainly about which states are most forgotten that they should be combined with another one or something. I only read one post about the Dakotas before making my post.

I have known all 50 states and all of their respective capitals from 5th grade Social Studies class. Something I don't plan on forgetting either.

I learned the states in grade school......... 5th grade Georgraphy!

Why would I ever forget one of them and its place on the map! I have travelled in all of them except, Hawaii!

Majored in Geography and Geology in higher education.... always thinking place and directional orientation!

I have to hear Montana everytime I see little kids talking about Miley Cyrus. So I can't say that.

I hear quite a bit about Idaho now in real life, apparently it's a booming state.

Oregon & Washington I hear about quite a bit.

I would have to say the two states that I rarely ever hear about are Wyoming & West Virginia.

Alabama, you guys ever saw the movie "Sweet Home Alabama"? Mississippi, every time there is a hurricane I hear of Biloxi, Mississippi. South Carolina, history made me memorize it, it was the first state to secede from the union. Tennessee, once again Miley Stuart reference, the Tennessee Titans, and I know and have been to Memphis twice. Elvis and all these other people, and that dumb pick up line most guys are always ranting on about "you're the only ten I see" so I hear of Tennessee quite a bit in real life.

The Dakotas they are the only states that impress me economically, they are BOOMING! Mount Rushmore, and all these other things, when I hear of one of them I think of the other, so I do think of them a fair amount of time.

I know the cities and the capital and their state bird and stuff but I just never hear about those two states much. I hear about Rhode Island a lot, I watch Family Guy lol. Maine, Vermont, & New Hampshire get their fair share of credit. Especially when I watch Adam Sandler movies like Mr. Deeds (New Hampshire) or see Hallmark cards with the lighthouse from Maine. And for Vermont I see it in history books as one of the only 4 present US states that were once a country of their own.

I hear a lot about Alaska and Hawaii... people here normally use Alaska as an example when they say things like "you want to see a dead place with no one- go see Alaska, there's only like two people there" people in real life say that all the time... and now because of Sarah Palin yeahhh I never hear the end of it.

Hawaii has been famous and continues to be.

Wyoming & West Virginia, among my friends if I were to bring those two states up, they couldn't tell me the capital or anything about those states, they would probably not even know where Wyoming was on the US map.

I looked up some pictures for West Virginia particularly Charleston, and some of the scenic areas of the state. The state overall is freakin beautiful... but it's name doesn't get spread around at all.

So the two states that I hear the least for are: Wyoming & West Virginia.

Well, Yellowstone is one of the top national parks. And if you're on the east coast (mid-Atlantic), you hear about West Virginia fairly often.

BTW, it seems like the intent of this thread was something totally different from what I imagined. Oh well.

Maryland and Rhode Island? Hmm.., our nation's capital was carved out of one, and the other is home to an ivy league university. Interesting that you'd forget about these two.

Probably because I'm from the Midwest. Some of those eastern states like Maryland, Rhode Island, and Delaware are overlooked.
