Atlantic City:
Atlantic City - a set on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ed1/sets/72157603675811318/with/4524253416/ - broken link)
These are just some pictures of 3 towns.
I'm sorry but this quick post did none of these towns any justice at all, I just don't feel like going through a whole big fancy post.
Nice Pasadena post , but I don't think you know about the Jersey Shore enough to just judge it like that. But that's what this thread is about, bring out the good in SoCal & the J.S.

Those are nice photos especially the shots of Atlantic city. My point is that the Jersey Shore is essentially a summer-only destination aside from the gambling attractions in Atlantic City. New Jersey seems like a great place to spend a few weeks with the family and kids during summer. For adults, Atlantic City offers more fun. But the Jersey Shore is a fraction the length of southern California from Santa Barbara to San Diego and has none of the scenic scale of California.

I really love pics #3 & #4, Palm trees always capture my attention.
I agree that California has better backdrops, NJ's mountains aren't on the coast.
The Jersey Shore is actually a good Spring, Summer, & Fall destination, it's less crowed in Spring & Fall, all the same attractions (the beach would really be pushing if it was late-Fall or early-Spring). The water wouldn't be pushing 80 degrees like Summer, it'd be in the 60's. Atlantic City is a year round destination though.
A lot of people actually live on the Jersey Shore and I'm sure they're happy to get a free season (Winter) away from the "shoobies" lol. I'm sure Californians are pretty used to it though since it's a 365/24/7 thing.
The Jersey Shore would probably extend from the U.S./Mex border to Long Beach (maybe Santa Monica) so you're right it is shorter but still pretty large, it still packs a lot.
There really isn't much beautiful or exciting about New Jersey.
California may have the scenic-arena on a much larger scale, but NJ definitely has some notable scenery worth mentioning. The Delaware Water Gap national recreation area is one of the most visited destinations in the country.
Most of NJ's northwest passage are scenic rolling hills that are the eastern tip of the Appalachians. While the central region is covered by a daisy-chain of forests/greenery that make up the Pine Barrens
As for me there's no clear winner between the 2. The Jersey Shore has the attractions but coastal SoCal has the scenery and superior weather for most of the year (Fall, Winter, & Spring).
Like if they somehow fused together that'd be a pretty tough destination to beat.
I don't go to beaches to enjoy the city life. I go to the beach to enjoy the beach, and the beauty of it. It's part of nature. Socal has breath taking beaches. NJ beaches aren't terrible but they don't compare.
I don't think the "entertainment" had anything to do with New Jersey but rather the sexual escapades of the "entertainers" on "Jersey Shore." In other words I don't think people flocked to the beaches of New Jersey for anything they saw in the MTV series. In-fact the second year of the series was actually filmed in Miami.
But, on the other hand, those who watched various shows MTV that focused on people in California also noticed the surroundings and were attracted to California based on the beautiful beaches and exciting lifestyle.
There really isn't much beautiful or exciting about New Jersey.
California in the media- Air heads who sold their soul for fortune and fame.
New Jersey in the media- Loud mouth juice heads and guidettes.
There's really no excuse, they're both looked at in a negative way. I don't know why you think CA is looked at in a positive light (in the media).. The Kardashians are a main attraction, but would that be the case if Kim wasn't hot and didn't leak a trashy sex tape? Because her personality is as bland as it gets.
Anyway, your last part was just un-called for. You know that's not true. NJ and CA are both my favorite states, so I would never bash CA and boost NJ just to get back at ya.
But I will say, NJ can be very beautiful.. It's beaches are plain jane in comparison to California's stunningly beautiful coast- But NJ has better attractions (Better boardwalks, it has casinos), and it can be more charming... I don't know how you can say NJ isn't exciting, that's just borderline stupidity. (Atlantic City, Seaside Heights, Wildwood, Six Flags Great Adventure, diversity, Hoboken, Jersey City, and all of it sandwiched between NYC and Philly)

Definitely, California is the more stunningly beautiful coast. Those pictures are tough to beat, but here goes the Jersey Shore.
