I love those pix of the Tudors. I lived in Middle Villiage where there where a lot of Tudors. Where does this come from? Britian and Henry and Mary. It's not just Manhattan that has a Brit influence. Where does "Queens" come from? Certainly, not Hong Kong.
Which city would you consider to be your closest peer?
For Charlotte, this is something of a tough one. Our closest peers seem to be state capitals/college towns (Indianapolis, Austin), something that we obviously aren't.
I think it depends on the criteria you are using. Frankly, I think Raleigh has a lot more in common with Austin. Raleigh is a state capital and college town. It's also a high tech town: which Austin also is. Raleigh and Austin both attract highly educated people and are listed among the most educated cities in America. Both cities house their respective state's largest university. They are both boom towns that are 1st and 2nd in overall growth rates nationally. Both metros' economies are holding up better than respective states. Austin city is certainly more similar in size to Charlotte city than to Raleigh city but the Austin metro is almost identical in size to the Raleigh/Durham CSA.
When asked this question before, Austin always come to mind. It's the only city in Texas that feels familiar when I go there. For me, there's something that's familiar about most state capital/college towns.

I agree, but like I said, it's really hard to say which city is Charlotte's closest peer. The ones that do come closest tend to be state capitals and/or college cities, neither of which really applies to Charlotte.

What about Kansas City?....or Dallas? Dallas is on a much different scale but I could see some relationship. Kansas City is a smaller core city but its metro is similar. It's also on a state line with its metro spilling into an adjacent state. that's similar to Charlotte.
