I was going through some data between different Metropolitan divisions and some of it surprised me a bit. I thought I would share with you guys and see what you thought. Its surprising that places can be so close but be demographically very different (yet some are identical). For the sake of comparisons, I am only going to compare places that have two or more distinct metropolitan divisions (like The Bay Area, Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, and Washington/Baltimore) that can somewhat stand out. For the record I am not trying to prove a point, I just thought the data would be fun to see and compare.
Los Angeles/Orange County/San Bernadino/Riverside:
San Francisco-San Mateo-Redwood City Metropolitan Division (pop. 1,748,891):
White - 49.6%
Black - 4.6%
Asian - 24.5%
Hispanic - 17.6%
Native American/Alaskan - 0.2%
Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander - 0.8%
other - 0.4%
two or more races - 2.4%
White - 42.9%
Black - 11.1%
Asian - 19.8%
Hispanic - 21.8%
Native American/Alaskan - 0.3%
Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander - 0.6%
other - 0.6%
two or more races - 2.9%
the population figures are a little low, as its from the 2008 american community survey/census estimate.
Black alone - 85,704 (83.4%)
White alone - 10,338 (10.1%)
Hispanic - 5,065 (4.9%)
Two or more races - 1,215 (1.2%)
American alone - 162 (0.2%)
Asian alone - 123 (0.1%)
Other race alone - 124 (0.1%)
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone - 15 (0.01%)
