If we're talking strictly about beach towns/cities, then it's Florida easily. At a certain point along CA's coast, the coastal towns/cities lack that typical beach culture due to decreases in average temperatures. If we're talking about coastal towns/cities, then I'd give it to California.
Not entirely sure what you mean by "typical beach culture" The whole surfing "culture" basically started in California and the beach bum stereotype is pretty prevalent. I love the beaches of Florida but surfing is not very good due to lack of wave formation and height. Florida is more about swimming and snorkeling whereas California is the surf capital besides Hawaii. Both states have great boating and fishing. Florida has wonderfully wide sandy beaches with palm trees. California also has great beaches with mountains backdrops and palm trees.

Yes, but more prevalent in SoCal. You think "beach bum" when you think of San Diego and the beaches in the LA area, but not San Francisco.

I don't even think "beach" in San Francisco. The only beaches are on the Pacific ocean side of the city since the entrance to the bay thru the Golden Gate is rocky and the bayside is the harbor. The beaches of San Francisco are dangerous for rip currents and the water is too chilly to swim in. People drive down to Santa Cruz for the beaches. Santa Cruz considers itself "Surf City" but lost in a legal battle with Huntington Beach to use that logo as official. Apparently Huntington Beach used that first. But Santa Cruz has quite a beach culture with some of the best surfing in the state and during winter a contest is held each year when waves up to 20 feet occur.
Yeah....right now there is probably some bored guy in Nebraska at the tourism office thinking flood it, import the sand and palm trees......hmmn build it and they will come.
California. Florida has better beaches. But Cali got the better beach city. It seems as if people are voting for the state with better beaches which is not being asked for. Seriously Miami and Orlando are not better than San Diego and San Francisco!!

True, but Disney got smart years ago and realized folks were coming to visit the mouse house on day trips and spending the rest of their time on coastal FL beaches.....so they just built there own beach. They are masters in the art of wallet draining.

Californians don't know that. They don't know much about anything West of the Rockies.
BTW, I say this from experience. I grew up there. I go there all the time for work. I am usually shocked by how little Californians know about anything that doesn't have to do with them.
