The island of Montreal is slightly more populous than Manhattan, but significantly larger. Both are amazing, cosmopolitan places with a mixture of old and new architecture. Which one would you choose to make your permanent abode based on culture, cost of living, amenities, personal preferences, mont royal park versus central park etc.

Montreal has a Little Italy, too. Different though.

I guess Manhattan is more familiar than Montreal to most people.

Montreal has its own bagel (just as NYC does) though I haven't tried it yet.

Also, Montreal is supposedly two cities in one as it has one of the largest if not the largest underground complexes in the world--key in dealing with the harsher winters there.

I know, but Montreals little Italy is just like any other neighborhood- You can call it Little Italy, but who would know if you were there without a clue? Chinatown is taking over in NYC's Lil IL it seems.

Manhattan's better but it really depends on what you value more. Manhattan has the taller buildings, incredible density and infill, parks ... etc but it lacks topography which the Montreal island has.

Wouldn't Montreal being so much bigger have more parks or at least total parkspace. Either way, Manhattan probably has the better parks. Except for Mont Royal Park. That thing is amazing.

Montreal is a great but it really isn't in NYC's league and it has pretty much nothing over NYC.
