Lets take it back a bit further to the mid 1980's when exctasy was legal & sold at the infamous Dallas dance club Starck (Dallas' version of Studio 54 in NYC).

Dj Rick Squillante was an icon in the 80's Dallas club scene & nation wide.

RIP Rick

YouTube - Felix Da Housecat - Silver Screen (Shower Scene)

hrrm...
not sure
these sounds crossed late 90s/early 2000s in chicago, electroclash and a banging style house...

meanwhile in SF had the "hoover" sound going

YouTube - Dj Dan - That Zipper Track [Needle Damage Mix]

and nyc had similar stuff coming from keoki

YouTube - DJ Keoki - Catepillar

also played a lot of the sound at webster hall, razor n guido mixes, tranzhall, limelight, twilo etc...

big coming from nyc was sanzhez, tenaglia etc.

YouTube - Danny Tenaglia - Elements (The Chant)

classic ^

this might describe the scene though... or what might actually happen

YouTube - The Horrorist - One Night In New York City (Uncensored)

NYC also had a distinct trance sound from some of the balearic stuff going on in europe

slick with tight beats.

meanwhile in DC you had Deep Dish and others at Yoshi Toshi record shop.

same time u had sasha and digweed doing northern expeditions across u.s., pvd, breakbeats down in florida, etc ... so it certainly wasn't the only sound being played...

i don't really keep up with stuff anymore, its pretty much dead in the u.s. outside of maybe deadmau5 but he is overrated imo, nothing nick warren or digweed wasn't doing 10 years ago. mostly anything innovative in the entire scene is in europe now. Most u.s. talent flees to play club dates in events over there. Only makes the rounds due to some outdated club promoters state side, with possible appearances at Coachella or Ultra. U.S. killed its scene with RAVE act in 2002.

Seriously wish I could rep you Fantastic remix..I used to hit
the underground warehouse club scene in Denver..a place called twenty three Parish.. the owner of the club went onto start some of the most influential clubs in NYC..your remix brings it all back.OMD itself was mainstream pop , but they are amazing to sample.. Dallas was Red Hot with DJ's you are correct.
