Does your metro have suburbs that are more related to another suburb than they are to a central city? I suspect that many metros do.
I'll start. Raleigh's major suburb is Cary. At 140,000 people, Cary has Morrisville immediately adjacent and related to Cary more than it is to either Raleigh or Durham. Some might say that the same is true for Apex. But, at 35,000 people, Apex simply seems too large to me to be considered a suburb of a suburb.
Another suburb of Raleigh is Wake Forest. Wake Forest has Rolesville related to it as its "suburb".
Depends how you look at it,but, yes.
You could say Oak and SJ are suburbs of SF and that there surrounding areas of the East Bay and South Bay are suburbs of those cities.

I grew up in the South Bay. So, I see your point. But, I don't know that I'd consider either Oakland or San Jose a suburb of San Francisco. If San Jose was a burb of SF, it would probably be the only suburb in the nation that was actually more populated than its central city.

No, neither Oakland & San Jose are suburbs of San Francisco. In fact one is even larger than San Francisco (albeit more land area), they all have their own cores (Downtown/CBD's), their own international airports, their own sports teams, their own businesses, their own economic drives, San Jose even has its own MSA, and Oakland has its own Metropolitan Division. Saying San Jose or Oakland are suburbs of San Francisco is like saying Baltimore is a suburb of Washington DC or Saint Paul (Minnesota's capital) is a suburb of Minneapolis, its just not true. Oakland, San Jose, & San Francisco are all principle cities and anchors for their Greater Metropolitan Area (CSA). And none of them are centralized either, its East Bay, South Bay, and The Peninsula.
But yeah, an example for the Bay Area could be Palo Alto (a suburb of San Jose) has a ring of small little suburban cities around it also.

Agreed..that's why I said 'depends how you look at it' and emphasized could.
This happens in Orlando.. Oviedo is a big suburb of Orlando and Geneva and Chuluota are small towns that are right outside of Oviedo. Most of the residents of those small towns use Oviedo to do there basic shopping, go to the movies, bowling and other simple things, then they go to Orlando for major things like big concerts/events, better shopping and entertainment, etc. So in a way they are small suburbs of Oviedo but they are still ultimately suburbs of Orlando.

Actually San Fran is a suburb of Oakland thats why.
In Charlotte you have Gastonia, Concord, and Rock Hill. Gastonia has Belmont, Dallas, Denver, Stanly, and Bessemer City. Concord shares that area with Kannapolis and Salisbury. Rock Hill has Tega Cay, Fort Mill, and perhaps Clover.
And rnc2mbfl, I consider Apex a suburb of Cary. In my experience, Apex felt like an extension of Cary.
