Ugh lol. The entire city of DC could fit into that hole lol. So there is no way it's downtown is larger than that. haha jkjk. But the areas will be very much connected on both sides with about 5 square blocks at the thinnest on both side. That sounds pretty connected to me. And if they covered in that entire area with highrises than highrises/midrises would cover about 30% of the city lol. That's just ludicrous.

The DC core is just way bigger than that entire area. It's just a fact. Also, why do you guys keep including university city into Center City's future expanded development area? There is a river dividing them! University City is to center City what Arlington is to DC. If you want to add those areas, then we have all of Arlington.

Are you seriously suggesting Arlington offers the vibrancy and urbanity of UCity (U City in many ways is more similar to the vibrancy of DT DC in most areas as opposed to Arlington)?

I agree the DC footprint is larger though wont argue there and is a very good DT just doesnt have the same level of activity IMHO

Not to mention it is far closer and VASTLY more connected. While Arlington is close it really doesnt have the pedestrian traffic between it like U City and Philly do; I mean not even remotely close you must understand this correct?

Well U City has a lot going on as well.

Look at what is happening at Drexel

Cira South, Penn

All the new research facilities etc

Coupled with the eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, museums, and 55K college students. Quite honestly I am not sure I really see the comparison; do think you are stretching this. While there may be apts and office buildings going up in Arlington what is going in the neighborhood (rather sterile compared to U City); pretty disimilar

Cambridge is a much better equivalant to U city.

You are going to have to explain this "sterile" argument you keep bringing up. They all look the same to me. Shiny new buildings are in center city, D.C., Arlington, Midtown Manhattan, Midtown Atlanta, Downtown Chicago etc. etc. etc. Please explain to me the difference between these buildings and the buildings in any of the places I just showed you. Now if you mean the people are sterile, then I agree. In fact, Arlington, the core of D.C. (these days), Downtown Chicago, Center City, and Midtown Manhattan are all equally sterile in my opinion. When I go to NYC and I want to get away from sterile, then obviously I'm going to go to Harlem or across the river to Flat Bush. If I want to get away from Sterile in Center City, I'm going to head north of Center City or West of Center City. All these area's in every city's downtown have the same sterile people and they are all equally sterile with a complete lack of edge and swag!

Renderings for just a few of the Arlington Residential High rises just completed, under construction, or breaking ground soon:

When I have time I will post everything going on in University City. It blows Arlington truly out of the water. DC as well IMO. And that's just UCity, not including Center City or all the other areas with large development plans (North Philadelphia, South Philadelphia, Delaware Riverfront).

While I do agree that Cambridge is awesome, University City has a large city feel all on it's own. Cambridge does not have this feel and feels more like a suburb to me

Really I thought they were very similar, if anything Cambridge was more distint from Boston than Ucity is from Center City, because the Town grew independent of Boston til 1810 when the first Charles River crossing came to be, and Cental, Harvard, Poeter, and KendellbSq feel quit city-like.
It could be the lack of a hierarctical grid system causes the activity to be more spread evenly than U City making U city appear move Vibrant because it was concentrated.
