New bars and lounges are opening practically every week/month in the city.
It will never be as live as South Street or Tremont/Boyleston/Newbury Streets when all of the students get back to town.

Obviously they're of greater national or global significance...but it's hardly representative of "a day in the life" of downtown DC. I didn't realize you were trying to show DC's unique-ness with the pictures.

TMAC,

Do you really believe Boston has better nightlife than DC? Come on dude. It's no contest. Even Philly. There use to be a bus from Philly to DC every friday evening that dropped people off at Love/Dream night club in DC.
I never said that...I said downtown did. That's what this thread is about, so I've been trying to keep it that way. I'm not sure one blows the other out of the water in any regards of overall nightlife, but I think Boston's downtown nightlife is considerably better than downtown DC's. You're the one expanding the borders all of a sudden to encompass the entire city, not me.

Plus DC has a DT arena that throws throngs of people onto the street before and after basketball and hockey games
As does Boston. It's a shame Philly placed their arenas so far from downtown.

The National Mall is fairplay. And Rittenhouse Square, and even Love Park, crush the Mall in terms of vibrancy with all of the hipsters, punks, dancers, poets, artists, and weirdos.

It doesn't. It's just a way to try to get around the fact that Downtown DC is lame.

As stated before other cities have large gatherings too - but I still think this is more on street virbancy - but just some examples that gatherings do in fact take place outside of DC
