Why? Where did San Francisco go? Into space? How are they two different things when San Francisco is not only in California, but really the first major city BUILT in American California?

Before anyone says that "BUT WE AREN'T TALKING ABOUT STATES, LOL!" its relevant to this conversation because the question was "Where's the best place to get Chinese food in the country?" and it wasn't specifically restricted to any sort of city, but could be extended to an area with a further reach (most commonly, people here use metros, but sometimes includes talking about whole states). In fact, the more relevant thing that we should be discussing is what restaurant has it, but since that would be nearly impossible, most of us in City vs City resort to City comparisons.

And San Francisco is clearly NOT the major gateway from the Far East & Southeast Asia, if far more folks from those regions are moving to NYC and LA.
The Bay Area has more Southeast Asia born than New York.

Bay Area: 455,426
New York: 242,280

In fact, the Bay Area nowadays is becoming more Asian than New York and LA due to high tech jobs and major universities (Berkeley and Stanford) in the region.

I'm not sure what to say if you don't understand that California and San Francisco are totally different entities.

San Francisco is a tiny subset of California. About 2% of Californians live in San Francisco. Therefore, generalizing about California has nothing whatsoever to do with generalizing about San Francisco.

"Beverly Hills is part of the earth. The earth is mostly poor. Therefore, Beverly Hills is mostly poor."

You really subscribe to this logic??

San Francisco is PART of California, and if the smaller part is larger than the whole, then the smaller part has some of the characteristic of the larger part.

It's like saying "Humans have eyes. I am a human, therefore I don't have eyes" See the logical inconsistency with that.

California (major gateway for Asians) ---> San Francisco is in California ---> San Francisco is a major gateway for Asians.

You are contending that somehow, San Francisco is aberrant from part of this trend, which is factually incorrect. If anything, San Francisco is aberrant for the opposite reason; 62% of SF's foreign born is from Asia (source: http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet...elect&-format=), as opposed to 34% for California as a whole.

You're working your logic backwards, I'm afraid.

Far more people? How do you want to prove this? The difference between the number of Chinese in the Bay Area, Southern California, and NYC aren't absurdly huge. These are basically the three major regions for East Asian/Southeast Asian immigration with none of them being significantly bigger than the others.

Wait, you're kidding right? As much as I love Chicago, their Chinatown can hardly be comparable to what has been already mentioned.
