The Valley is underrated, especially south of Vanowen St, it is quite urbanized in the southern part, lots of mid and even some high rises along Ventura Blvd

I know it's a nicer area than it's given credit for, but it is no greater than a city of Denver's stature.
Does LA as a whole beat Denver? Undoubtedly. It literally beats every city in the US not named New York City. But it's kind of unfair to say a full blown metro area can't complete with The Valley imo.
Ventura is one of the most interesting commercial streets in america though. Top 10 probably.
its not just the length. Its the concentration of retail/restaurants etc.
When people say:
Culture LA
Diversity LA
Food LA
Those are pretty much the under the same"Diversity" category. If it's culturally rich then it's diverse.
Scenery and accessibility of mountains, lakes, hot springs, ski towns - DENVER.
Skyline and downtown - DENVER. It's just Denser, more walkable, less aggressive, has a mix of old, new buildings, and the neighborhoods are CLEAN.
People - DENVER, I guess? People in LA are rude to my experience.
Driving - DENVER
Air Quality - Denver
Rent, affordability DENVER
Weather - Los Angeles However, if you like four seasons, it gets pretty boring.
Oceans, accessibility to water - Los Angeles
Nightlife and things to do - Los Angeles but Denver isn't that far behind
Water - DENVER. It's drinkable.
Taxes - Colorado
Starting a business - COLORADO. Aside from being taxed less, you don't have to pay that stupid franchise fee or other associated fees.
Crime rate - Los Angeles has ghettos and gangs so... DENVER wins
Money goes a long way in DENVER since the salaries are pretty comparable. Homelessness - LA wins, they're everywhere. We're talking astronomical numbers (41,000 vs 4,171)
In terms of QOL and viewing this objectively, Denver wins.........big time! LA is an absolute train wreck. My wife and I visited 2 years ago and saw first hand. Horrible cost of living/buying power, rampant homelessness, citizens and businesses fleeing, rioting, oppressive government, horrid air quality, wildfires/earthquakes risk, etc., etc., etc. It does have an endless amount of wonderful recreational assets, #1 among metros in my rankings. But it doesn't even remotely come close to overcoming its enormous downside.
Denver, though expensive, is a huge bargain compared to LA. I personally prefer its climate. Much nicer people. Better/more stable economy. Safer. Cleaner. More family oriented.
That anyone would think that this is a slam dunk for LA is simply laughable. This isn't 1971 or 81. This 2021. A once awesome LA is, sadly, dead and gone by its own doing. No amount of denial can change that. Hopefully that can change over the next several generations. It will take at least that long.
I love LA vibes but I do find it harder to walk around and do things than in Denver. I got really high when I was in Denver too. Good weekend.
