But from what I've seen of GA, it's poised to grow. That's all it can do. I've lived all over VA and NoVa isn't all of VA. The state is just more well balanced than the other two. I'd rather send my kids to VA schools than the others. VA pays much better overall, not just in NoVa, taxes are lower, car insurance is way lower, schools are ranked nationally as one of the best. It's the clear winner to me. But I love GA for the cost of living, just not for the high taxes or car insurance rates.
Actually out of the states mentioned...GA and NC are fighting for the title. Virginia stats are "boosted" by NOVA such as the GDP. I will give VA the education advantage but there are several factors that goes in GA and NC's favor....Population for starters, all of these states have similar populations in 1990...Look at the stats now GA is over 10 million and NC is right there...VA is over 8 million...Growth in those two states will eventually allow those two states to create a bigger gap between VA...Not to mention, VA doesn't have a major city in the state or a major international airport....I could go and on but I think GA and NC are clearly 1 and 2 and are very close....

I think most would consider Dulles to be a major international airport.

He didn't even mention D.C. in his post. Northern Virginia is still Virginia even though it is greatly influenced by D.C., whats it matter? Dulles is located within the borders of the Commonwealth of Virginia, not the District of Columbia. I don't care who the airport is intended to serve, it's in Virginia.

Is NOVA and large chunks if Md irrelevant because of their proximity to D.C.? Heck, they're the ones that gave up the land for Washington.

Cdw1084 you say VA is boosted by NOVA, but GA and NC are boosted by Atlanta and Charlotte are they not?

I'm sure he was referring to the entire Washington metropolitan area.

Of course GA and NC are boosted by the largest cities in their state and these are the largest financial districts as well. Does Virginia Beach play this role in VA?

Let's not play dumb here, NOVA doesn't even want to be a part of traditional Virginia. Virginia's numbers are boosted by having counties in the Washington metro Area which isn't a bad thing but it's something that we all are aware of..

In regards to the airport, while those airports may have a VA address, we all also know that those airports are linked to DC.
