Many regard the urbanity of these three to be fairly close, and many deem they are all compact and similar cities in many ways.

But which one (Boston or Philadelphia) is closer to San Francisco?

In terms of:
- People Personality
- Education
- Vibrancy
- Layout
- Vibe
- Wealth
- Size
- And anything else that you can come up with

Which one of the two cities is overall closer to San Francisco?

In terms of:
- People Personality-Honestly neither imo.

- Education-Boston, however Wharton has a SF Campus!

- Vibrancy-Both are very vibrant.

- Layout-I don't know but if I had to guess Philadelphia. Our Market Street is named after theirs. LOL

- Vibe-Boston I think is not as brash as Philly and in that sense is more similar to SF, well except for Red Sox fans. LOL

- Wealth-Boston is wealthier than Philadelphia as far as median income so Id say Boston.

- Size-Boston is small and compact like SF. Philadelphia is bigger.

So I guess for me, based on your criteria and my experience and the numbers I've seen, its Boston.

Boston.. Definitely.
Similar snob factor, both highly educated areas, both have a wealthy population, both are on a coast, and they're nearly the same size (square mileage)

Philadelphia is more like Baltimore

Yes I think anyone can tell you that. That is why I asked which of the two is the most similar to San Francisco, not which one of them is exactly like San Francisco.

Overall, I would have to say SF is far more like Boston.

Both are smaller cities.
Both have reputations for being expensive, yuppie cities.
Super dense areas apartment building neighborhoods.
North Beach: North End.
Berkeley:Cambridge
Large downtown financial centers surrounded by high tech/biotech suburbs.
Well educated populations.
Big venture capital centers
Liberal reputations

There are couple similarities with Philly, but not as many:
Suspension bridges, Dense downtown shopping streets, Market Streets

San Francisco is more comparable to Boston. I'd say San Francisco is like a much newer and hillier Boston. But one is obviously west coast and and the other New England, so they have very different vibes, architecture, ethnic makeups, history and such.

I think Boston is more similar, and while Philly and SF have some similarities they mostly are not.

In many ways I would still say Boston is more similar to Philly than it is to SF
