Lakers and Clippers. Clippers may be bad, but they have some great young players, and twice as many dates to see other teams between the two teams.
NFL is coming back to LA in the next few years. 2 MLB teams. 2 NHL teams. Tons to do outdoors.
San Antonio is not bad, but as far as sports its a one trick pony.
Its full of culture & old world charm. The nightlife is just "ok" for a large city, but you have the San Antonio Spurs which are a great NBA team.
Los Angeles is over rated even though I like visiting there it doesn't seem like a good place to live especially in the economic disaster California is facing right now. Finding work there would be a challenge, if not impossible.
San Antonio is highly underrated for a large city & doesn't get the respect it deserves. You have Austin just a short drive away too if you need more nightlife & natural scenery with the Texas Hill Country which even extends to the Northwestern edge of San Antonio.
If basketball is important than I would absolutely pick Los Angeles. Not just because it has 2 NBA teams [one of which is almost always in the cellar] but because the sport of basketball is nicely accommodated in LA. For example; all the courts at the beach. I don't think there are many cities anywhere that can rival Los Angeles for ideal outdoor basketball conditions and the sheer number of courts. The southern California climate allows for outdoor activities more than just about anywhere else in America and why so many athletes train here.
But aside from basketball to compare San Antonio to Los Angeles is a bit of a stretch. I like San Antonio but it would be a better comparison to match it up with San Jose or Sacramento.

yes, LA has the upper hand in sports. But right now San Antonio has the upper hand in basketball. Spurs are killing!
San Antonio is great, but eventually L.A. will come calling, and the 10 makes it easy to succumb to temptation.
