Why don't you let New Yorkers decalre where their shix boro is?
Nobody in New York considers any part of NJ similar to New York City, which by the way is much bigger than Manhattan. There are too many cultural and historical differences between those two states to list them here.
I live in Queens and I just said what would qualify as the 6th borough.
And whoever doesn't see the similarities between NY & NJ are deaf, dumb, and blind, some by choice since they don't like NJ for their own personal reasons but don't make it seem like all of us are like that.
There are some differences of course, I'm not denying that but they're very similar too, but why would 2 places 1 mile from each other (Hudson River) be drastically different culturally and historically?
Yeah I agree with Yonkers or Long Island as well. Like you said Yonkers it's next to the Bronx, and Queens is next to Long Island. So this makes perfect sense. Not too long ago I was driving through Woodlawn, an Irish neighborhood in the Bronx, and boom I hit Yonkers. So yeah, Yonkers or LI should be the 6th borough if anything.
I don't think anybody doubts that parts of Westchester, Nassau and even Orange county are joint-at-hip with the city without having the title of sixth boro. That's obvious. I still claim the title should go to Palm Beach County FL which despite being so far away from New York often feels like "sixth boro" due to the number of New Yorkers who moved down here.

Cultural and historical differences?
Can you name some of them? Especially the historical differences. I am curious.
If New York had to pick a 6th borough (or find a replacement for Staten Island if they ever secede), where would it be? A classic pick is Philadelphia, and more recently there's been CRAZY TALK of Cleveland, Ohio becoming a destination for priced-out New Yorkers. In fact, we received many personal messages from ex-New Yorkers living over there, singing its praises as the nation's "best kept secret." Before Cleveland, there was talk of Jersey City, Atlanta, and even Yonkers as being contenders for the coveted title—they've all garnered press as the latest migration trend (as have the suburbs, and Kansas City). So, if we're going to extend a prestigious 6th Borough title upon one of them, which should it be?
there's a slight difference. LI doesn't have places like Lefrak City or Starrett City (at least not from what i've seen) but it does have a very similar feel to Queens. they're on the same island after all

Curiosity is a great thing. Well, first of all New Jersey have never aspired to urbanity, there are no livable large size cities in New Jersey. It's always been a suburbian state with suburbian mentality. Of course there is Jersey City, Hoboken and other cities prospering along the PATH routes yet those are rrarely inhabited by new Jerseyans. New Jersey was never interested in urban life and mentality of New Jerseyans is very different than New Yorkers.
IMO, Hudson County would be the 6th borough. The 5 boroughs are all New York State Counties. So not Jersey City, which is only part of Hudson County.
No, Hudson county is a suburb like Orange or Nassau counties. Definetely not a sixth boro. Bayonne part of New York... You are kidding, right?
