Yeah there's also been black cowboy appearances in SF, during the Juneteenth celebration:

Definitely an overlooked and interesting part of American history. I especially like how neither black people or cowboy type stuff are usually associated with the Bay Area (aside from Oakland, and the Gold Rush days), yet we have some people here representing both at the same time.

The main difference between these two cities is that
Cleveland had a bright past and a bleak future
Oakland had a bleak past and a bright future.

Your statement concerning these two cities is NOT factual ... in fact, it's highly inaccurate.
Cleveland has a very promising future ahead, in spite of a few fiscal problems it has experienced recently ... these very problems are shared with the likes of most major American cities.

Cleveland is in the midst of a sizable "BUILDING BOOM" at the present time ...

BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS are being invested in large scale and very
prolific construction projects throughout the city.

MONSTER.COM ranked Cleveland as having the 7th best job market in the country ... not too shabby for a city that u have mistakenly identified as "having a bleak or dismal future"

^The amount of construction currently happening in Cleveland right now is insane. I wanna say over $4 BILLION is currently under construction. Maybe someone can post a list? Most of these projects will all be completed by 2013.

Granted. The Brookings Institute lists of "metro areas" show:

San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, CA - Second 20 Weakest Metros
Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor, OH - Weakest 20 Metros

That is very impressive. I hope it all comes to fruition.

Oakland's biggest problem is not a lack of worthy projects, but vehement opposition from neighborhood organizations that I feel like body-slamming everytime I go to planning meetings.

Right now, here are the biggest projects either under construction or have cleared all the planning and legal hurdles(for the most part-LOL).

There are actually many more that I really like and I know will happen because of their circumstance, but these are the biggest ones now.

The Uptown Area has seen hundreds of millions of dollars in development in the past decade and continues now. When that is said and done the total price tag to develop that neighborhood will top $1 Billion.

Also, something every interesting happened in Oakland from 2000-2010.

The Census Bureau reported that Oakland lost 10,000 residents, but Downtown Oakland actually grew by 5,000 which comes out to a huge increase of 30%.

Quote:

While Oakland as a whole lost more than 8,000 people, or 2 percent of its population, its downtown bucked that trend in the past decade, adding 5,000 people since the 2000 census, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released this week.

According to the latest census figures, population in the seven census tracts that make up Oakland's downtown -- which includes Uptown, Old Oakland, Chinatown and Jack London Square -- grew by 5,134 people, from 16,399 people counted in the 2000 census to 21,533 today.

Slightly more than 3,500 new downtown condominiums, townhouses and apartments have been finished in the past decade and hundreds more are either under construction or still moving slowly through the planning phase, waiting for the recession to end and financing and customer demand to pick up again.
