Chicago is more like a 21-22 hour city.

Sf is dead by 230am.

Yeah, a one-trick pony 24-hour city.

Yeah I was talking about bars for nightlife. I seriously and absolutely have zero care for nightclubs and the likes of that.

Miami has some areas here and there that are, but that's about it. And kidphilly is right, Atlantic City does pull ahead here too.

I can agree with you here, outside of the strip and the casino's, Las Vegas is quite dead. In the US, NYC was about the only city I've seen parts of the city still vibrant into the wee hours. Even then it depends on the time of year, and where you're at because most of the city have dead zones after hours with most businesses close. Even Montreal which I thought was quite busy at 4am was simple dead back in October late a night. We had a hard time finding anything open. It's only during the summer months (which I experience) I was told that Montreal was party central.

BTW I'm way past the age of hanging out at night clubs as well. I'm a married man, and even if I weren't you wouldn't catch me in a club at my age. Not that I'm that old, but too old for clubbing (lol). Yep been there, done that, so these things aren't important to me when I visit a city now days.

NYC # 1 son. Then Las Vegas, or as I should say, New York of the desert Southwest.

No one else comes a mile close.

I do have a bit of an off topic question though: downtown1, what is your take on fashion? Trendy or artsy? Important? Gives a place a spirited atmosphere?
Don't most bars in Boston close at 1 am?

If you are just talking about US cities then I would agree, however outside of the US there are lots of cities that can claim that title.

good call with AC. its definitely a 24 hr city - less tacky than Vegas but possibly more cheesy. its got the casino culture & they serve alcohol 24 hrs. it doesn't have the high rollers of Vegas, but you do get some NY tri-state area high rollers

i assume Reno is similar?

Yeah, I agree.

More like 21 hours. Between 4am and 7am people start to go home and go to bed

New York is the ONLY true 24 hour city in the US.

Not Vegas, not Chicago, not Miami.

What of the rest of the 'top tier' cities? Could you easily rank them? Are they all really dead in comparison?

I'm talking

LA, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Seattle, Boston, SF/Bay Area. How would you rank them from most 24/7 to least 24/7? Not just talking about nightlife, but shops, services, vibrancy.etc. I'm guessing it has most to do with downtown population density and provision of uses.
Seattle and San Francisco have terrible nightlife! Both are a joke. However, Seattle does have maybe the best 24 hour restaurant in the country. It's called "13 Coins". Atleast we got that here in Seattle. I saw former Tennessee Titans and Ohio State Buckeyes running back Eddie George there last August.

Now Miami is a town that has some good nightlife. The weather there definitely helps. Here in Seattle things shut down between 1:30am and 2am which makes me really mad. It's so lame. Seattle is a morning person city. People here can't wait to wake up in the morning and drink their coffee, eat breakfast, and read the newspaper. Totally lame. I like to go party, sleep in, and then go straight to lunch.
