Have any of the crime (especially homicide) statistics available already from the nearest major city to you? Please post the data for the entire 2010 year. Then, we can compare it to 2009.

OK. I will start. Here is a link concerning the situation in New York for the year 2010...

Murders Rise in New York City, but Remain Near Historic Lows - NYTimes.com

This is what the article stats is the data for NYC, the closest city to me.
2009 471
2010 532

Note: 532 murders is still a relatively low number, especially compared to over 2,000 in 1990.

Note: The FBI released the priliminary stats for 2010, but these are only for the first half of the year and are thus incomplete.

I can't find the news website where I heard it, but Indianapolis had 100 in 2010.

Boston had 72...considerably higher than 2009 which had 50 and 2008 which had 63. Don't like to see that.

If that's for the whole metro, that's pretty good. If it's for the city limits alone, it's not terrible. But, IMHO, one is too many.

Raleigh had 15 in 2009 in a population of about 400K. I can't seem to find 2010 but will post when I find it. I am guessing it rose since 2009 was low compared to typical years. In the end, Raleigh is the safest larger city in NC according to crime stats.

532 is absolutely a remarkable number of (unfortunate!) homicides in NYC! Progress, indeed.
