We don't have murders on the D.C. metro but NYC subway sure does!

***Investigators in double 2010 NYC subway murder hampered by lack of cameras - but 900 new ones on way****

Investigators hunting the knife-wielding maniac who killed two straphangers on a subway train in the West Village have been hampered by a lack of security cameras.

Detectives believe the man who killed pals Ricardo Williams and Darnell Morel escaped early Sunday from the Christopher St. subway station, which has no video surveillance.

No arrests have been made in the vicious 5 a.m. slayings on a No. 2 train, and many straphangers remain rattled by the killings.

"I'm going to carry a bat," said Cynthia Jones, 44, who works in the West Village.

Despite having 4,313 security cameras in the subway, fewer than half the cameras work. More than 1,100 have software problems, and an additional 1,000 aren't fully installed or connected, the MTA said.

However, the MTA says 900 new surveillance cameras are expected to be installed throughout the system by June.

The cameras, focusing largely on riders entering and leaving the system through turnstiles, will bring the number of surveillance cameras recording images to approximately 3,000.

Cops believe that one member of Williams and Morel's group tossed some trash and hit a man standing by one of the doors.

The man pulled a knife and started slashing, killing Williams and Morel, both 24.

A third victim, Marc Joseph, 23, was released from St. Vincent's Hospital on Tuesday.

***Subway riders sealed in murder car 2009****

Nearly 30 petrified passengers were trapped on a Midtown hell train yesterday with a knife-wielding madman and the blood-soaked body of a straphanger he just stabbed to death in a senseless argument over a seat.
The Bronx-bound D train came to a screeching halt at around 2 a.m. in the tunnel between the Rockefeller Center and Seventh Avenue stations when a rider yanked the emergency cord after watching the carnage unfold.

Rats aren't even nasty.

Never understood the disgust by them. They're like little deformed dogs

Yes, everyone knows NY's subways are dirty and have rats in the stations (although, I've never seen a rat inside of subway car and NEVER climbing on people haha). But hey, I'll take the dirtier NY subways over DC's Metro anyday. DC's Metro is in not at all extensive, useful, or convenient compared to NY's subway.

No, in DC we don't have rats in our subway cars, they jump directly into baby strollers (http://www.expressnightout.com/content/2008/01/rat_jumps_into_baby_stroller_in_dupont_c.php - broken link).
