I'm not surprised to see Florida on 5th place, people on this forum always seem to complain how bad are Florida schools, but they were also ranked high from USNWR and other sources.I can't believe though Illinois is #40!
My first thought on reading the OP was "what?" However at least some of this seems to be about educational policy, economic inequality of education, who's improving, getting kids to transition to adulthood education or work, etc rather than just overall success or failure in educating them. (If you don't get the hint, I'm implying this may have a political or advocacy element to it)
The "Chance for Success" element doesn't sound too political though. Going by it Massachusetts is the best and Nevada is the worst. Nebraska is slightly above average as is Illinois. Florida is a bit below average. That more fits what I know.
No surprises...once again Massachusetts leading the pack. Another indicator cementing the fact...folks raised in the Massachusetts school systems are generally more intelligent : ).
A second shout-out to Alabama and Mississippi...nice rebound folks!
It doesn't surprise me that Maryland is at the top, even some schools here that don't have the best reputations made it onto Newsweek's list of top high schools.
