brats = bratwurst. If you don't know, you probably don't know what I'm looking for. I like Wisconsin's grilling style, with some of Chicago's foods like sausage and Italian beef.
I know this is just a fun map and not really meant to be taken seriously. But Oregon should really be Coho or Chinook salmon...It's not like people eat hazelnuts regularly---that seems to be more something you'd buy in a giftshop for your out-of-state aunt. When I think of popular local foods that are on a lot of menus, or served up at a dinner party or cookout, I'm thinking of salmon. For Washington, I'd actually say oysters(which are a big industry in Willapa Bay or Hood Canal or Puget Sound) or Dungeness Crab rather than apples.
Grapes in California are popular as far as winemaking goes, but I've never had a craving for California grapes. You mention California, I'm thinking Mission-style or San Diego-style burritos, artichokes(fried or steamed), or in Northern California---San Francisco-style cioppino with sourdough bread on the side.
Can't buy pasties down here in TN so I settle for Mrs T's potato and onion pierogies as a close second. Pierogies are also tasty.
Had to laugh at Nevada having 'buffet' for their favorite food, that pretty much covers everything!
