I MEANT to vote Baltimore but accidentally clicked "Boston" so feel free to mentally take one away from Boston and add it to Baltimore.
Zoos and Aquariums are very different. Some cities have a GREAT Zoo and no Aquarium (Providence RI for example... DC has a great Zoo and a LITTLE Aquarium) and some have GREAT Aquariums and little or no zoo. For that reason one poll for both destinations is a little unfair.
The best Aquarium that I've BEEN to was in Baltimore (National Aquarium)... just fantastic. Boston's Aquarium is a little dated and Baltimore's just blew it out of the water (I've even been to the small satellite aquarium in Washington DC).
San Diego has a fantastic zoo... probably the best, but I also enjoyed the Zoo in Washington D.C.
San Diego really has it all. The San Diego Zoo is one of the finest in the whole world and is trying to actually make progress with animals like the giant panda.
The San Diego Wild Animal Park is another great place, not like your traditional zoo, and the city also has the Birch Aquarium at the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.
Basically the city not only has a great zoo, but also a great aquarium. Few cities have both.
I voted "Other" only because you said Zoo/Aquarium.
I consider San Diego to have the best zoo but for aquarium I am not sure. Atlanta is supposed to have a really nice aquarium but I have not seen it yet.
I grew up with the Bronx Zoo and the Central Park Zoo in NYC, and now I love my Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. And for sure the U.S.'s best zoo is the San Diego Zoo, which I think I read some years ago is regarded as the world's leading zoo.
I liked going to the zoo as a kid but now I think it would be better if all those animals were just left in the wild. It's no longer appealing to see animals caged.

Agree. One of the only benefits I see out of a zoo is helping preserve and keep animals alive that would no longer be around if they were left in the wild or in danger of being killed by hunters in a region with laws not protecting a species. Zoos can be a start for endangered species to reproduce in a safe environment and then be reintroduced to the wild once there is a large enough amount.
