Relatively speaking, of course, because I'm sure people of all ages have difference preferences.

But in general, which big cities have a surprising lack of entertainment options, a dating pool and employment opportunities for young singles? I've heard cities like Jacksonville, Tampa, Bakersfield and Phoenix mentioned.

When those two industries lag, the service industry lags as well. Wonder why the Sunbelt suffers from the highest unemployment rates in the country?

As far as dating goes, it depends on the individual. I don't think a region determines someone's dating potentials.

Nightlife sucks in most parts of the sunbelt. There is no explanation needed.

I fail to see how any area with over a few hundred thousand people could have a bad nightlife.

Yeah, whatever...

Phoenix has more younger people living here (average age) than most other cities do.

I definitely agree with Jacksonville. Hopefully it will get better, but it's a little too much of a family/retirement place and not enough of a vibrant single's scene. It's not like a 25 year old would absolutely die in a city like Jacksonville (and I sure as Hell would rather be in Jax than most other 1-2 million person Southern cities), but if you had a choice in the matter, why not go up to NYC, Atlanta, Chicago, LA, or even Austin?

And the problem with Jax is not that it's an "old" city. It has one of the lowest average ages and there are tons of young people. The problem lies in that there is not one great area for young people. Everything is too spread out. As a result, there is not a good dating/singles scene, and that's a huge problem.

This is a ridiculous statement. What you're trying to say is that if everything WEREN'T spread out, the dating scene would be better? I have many friends who live in downtowns in different cities (more dense) who have the exact same complaints as those who don't.
