That's true, but The White Stripes = Detroit. Meg White still lives in Detroit anyways.
We could nit pick back and forth. Michael Jackson was born in Gary, but got launched with the Jackson 5 in Detroit. Shania Twain was actually born in Windsor (which is basically metro Detroit), but didn't get her career launched in Detroit.
True, but if we're talking about "The Music Capital," where the musicians reside, record, and conduct their business is really more important than where they were born. Any album that Jack White is involved with (including the White Stripes although I doubt they'll do another one) will more than likely be recorded at his studio in Nashville, not Detroit.
With newer genres though this is more debatable... while New York started Hip Hop, other cities regions do it completely differently to the point where the lines are often blurred for what's "hip hop" in the original sense and what's not. For example, Bay Area hip hop sounds absolutely nothing like Atlanta hip hop which sounds absolutely nothing like NYC hip hop. The only similarities are that there's a beat and someone's rapping over it.

Hip hop is hip hop. Regardless of the location. Its the concept of it that matters

Like any other genre, Hip Hop has its subgenres too. Gangster Rap, G-funk, Alternative Hip Hop, Christian Hip Hop, Reggaetone, and Crunk to name the most well known.

It seems like NYC is the capital of everything including music. I vote for NYC because when I think of rap or hip hop, it comes from there. Not only that, but jazz and tap too although Chicago has some of it too.

I find people are really ignorant when it comes to music in Atlanta. How to have a list of music capita'sl without even a mention of Atlanta?Even if its not number one it should be a choice.Especially over D.C.!

It should also be mention that Macon Georgia was very instumental in Music we listen to today.Pioneers like Little Richard,The Allman Brothers,Otis Redding,Capricorn Records.
Nashville holds the number one ranking as Music City. You'd actually be surprised at the diversity and genre of music artists that record there.
