According to this the Bay Area (metro area) has the highest Afghan population in the country, yet DC metro has more Afghan restaurants:

lol I don't care what I sound like to you. To me you sound condescending but I'm not saying that am I now? Anyway, stay on topic lest the on topic police try to lock this thread.

Wow really? I would never have guessed that the bay had the largest Afghan population. You learn something new every day.

Yes..not just Fremont/Newark, but just up the road in Union City and several other nearby suburbs as well.

Good night!

BTW, I can't wait to hear from Bay Area people who are sick of my screen name...LOL!! I have to remind those people that once you get out of the Bay Area you realize the truth about the Bay Area..until you do you will be blind...LOL.

Who died and made NY the best metro?? The best city for sure, but I'd argue a few others in front of NYC in terms of metro

Well I'm sure you could find someone who would argue that metro Detroit is better than metro NYC. On metro Birmingham is better than the SF Bay Area. Or metro Cleveland is better than metro Honolulu. We call them outliers.

Metro NYC is the most important metro in the US. And as far as desireability goes, general concensus here is NY metro is #1.

1. Baltimore/Washington
2. Philadelphia/Wilmington/Trenton
3. NYC

The rest is pretty much pointless.

In a nutshell I'm saying you make some excellent points, and of course some I don't agree with as well. But when you try to take away from another city, start using profanity etc, the one you are defending also loses credibility despite if they are valid claims. I'm not a big fan of Houston either, but it does have a great economy.

That being said...back to food... I think pretty much all food originating in Asia (China/Japan/Thailand/Burma/Malaysia/Korea/Vietnam) is going to be better than anywhere else in the bay area. I don't think the indian/paki is as good there though. The bay has it's unique twist on mexican as well, which I prefer the focus more on fresh and lighter fare than the heavy fried/sauce driven fare elsewhere. Being close to fresh produce/farmland/ocean certainly helps the food scene. The food in grocery stores is better also, without doing anything to it.

Id say SF Bay Area is top 3-4 in the country (easily) on culture, influence, and character.

And no, ethnic food selection is exactly where the bay area kicks the majority of other metros' ***es, and especially outside of the big cities. Are you seriously trying to tell me that directly outside of say, Chicago, you can find half of what you can find in Chicago? Or DC?
Yes!!

You have to understand that the Bay Area has 3 anchor cities as oppose to Chicago's one. However, Chicago alone is bigger than SF, Oakland and SJ combined. Therefore, there going to be a lot more to do in a huge city like Chicago than the burbs. Nevertheless, there's still more to do in the burbs than you think. Evanston has really improved, Aurora's built its downtown area, Schaumburg, Naperville and Oakbrook have become alternatives to the Loop, Merrillville and Highland has some decent restaurants and entertainment, there area at lots of casinos in the area. Don't forget about Great America in Gurnee.
