Not for applications, of course not. But they will invite you to charitable events, which isnt necessarily a bad thing. After a while it gets to be too much.

Being invited to places by rich people to give your money away isn't necessarily a bad thing?

Charity is a good thing, but one shouldnt feel beholden to every cause that knocks on your door.

Untrue. More WASPs are not descended from Mayflower passengers and/or Plymouth colonists than are. Many also descend from Jamestown and the Virginia Colony. Also, some descend from the Quaker migration.

Personally I think L.A. would be first. You have Hispanics and blacks that seem to be in the upper echelons of society.Maybe San Fransisco too but only more Asians.

A friend who happens to be an African American woman owns and operates the most popular website on Atlanta Wealthy elite. She s the black woman in the fourth pic.

As has been said before, Atlanta's elite establishment is highly WASPy, consisting overwhelmingly of descendants of Virginia colonists. It's just that in a post Affirmative Action world, in a city with as large a black population as Atlanta, blacks also have developed an upper class. The two upper classes each invite a few token members of the upper class from the other racial group to their events, and always make sure that they're photographed so as to feign some "integrated" appearance as a platitude to PC sensibilities. In reality, both the WASPy and black elite strata prefer their own. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Waspy, blue blood elites are not yuppies. Atlanta is yuppyville. Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC are where the waspy elitists live.

Movie Stars and yuppies dont fall under those categories, theyre two different thinks. Yuppies and Movie stars is more of a west coast thing and Atlanta.

Default Boston, NY and Philadelphia

There is an old saw that in society in Boston they ask you where you went to school; in Philadelphia who your arents were and in NY how much money you have. (Of course in Boston where you went to school was often a reflection of class and almost the same as who your parents were) Probably still true to some degree but less so as substantial money has become more democratized and biases less pronounced. it has always eventuallybeen an entree into society if it lasts long enough

Well, I am no longer in the Detroit area, but I have to say the definitive study of American WASP culture can be found in the Grosse Pointes (east of Detroit). You will not see a contrast of wealth like this anywhere else except maybe in Rio or Mumbai...the waspy Grosse Pointes border the City of Detroit and it is like night and day as far as the culture and general condition of the two places. On one side you have block after block of wasteland and urban prairie and on the other side you will find massive Tudor estates lining shaded streets.

In the entire Detroit area I suppose there is some "mixing" but not much. The newer money stayed on the west side in Birmingham and the Bloomfields along with the Jewish money as well. The Jews and WASPs in the Detroit never mixed....or cared much for the other. The wealthier black Detroiters moved far west to Farmington Hills or West Bloomfield...or they stayed in the city in enclaves such as Palmer Woods and Boston-Edison.

The Grosse Pointes had a point system assigned to"outsiders" such as blacks, Jews, Italians and so forth. Although the Pointes have seen the larger estates torn down and many of the older folks have died off...there is still a massive amount of liquid wealth there.

Kansas City's classic WASP-y (upscale inner suburban) areas - Brookside, Ward Parkway, Mission Hills, Fairway, Prairie Village, etc. - are extremely white, about 90-95%. These areas have a strong history of segregation, some of which is supposedly still written into deeds, and a geographic line of demarcation - Troost Ave in Kansas City, MO - is still a very stark divide and in place and effective de facto-ly.

There seems to be a bit more diversity in Kansas City's premier (corporate) suburban city, Overland Park, especially in terms of Jews, Indians, Chinese, and Koreans.
