At this point a lot of the SE does have a fairly robust economic situation. There is a fairly wide array of industries and business in the region. The area was for the most part sparsely populated and underutilized for decades. Thus its developmentally one of the newest regions of the country.

Additionally, as endlessly stated here, the cost of living is less. Thus when you have a diversified, healthy job market and affordable housing that is going to spawn growth. Whether its the "best" place is highly subjective.

Also- for those they say they are moving South for warm weather.... guess what? It gets cold in most of the South too. I was home visiting my parents in TN in Dec. It was 12 degrees the day I left.

My question is, is the South really that much better than the NE? What's so great about it? What is in the South that you can't find anywhere else?
I have looked for this thread, and I couldn't find it anywhere.
My intention is not to bash the South, or any other place for that matter, but I really, genuinely want to know why the South is supposedly better.
Weather & Cost of living, 100% better. Everything else pales. It is enticing to see that you can live like a king and have a nice house with a pool for only 250k though.. if I could only learn to love NASCAR.

I've lived in the South my whole life, and I don't love NASCAR. It is possible.

Cripes, I can buy a very nice house with a pool for well under 250k. Tried the weather in the South, not for me.

As for the OP: Is the South better? For some it is, for others it is not. You can find low cost of living and uncrowded places in a LOT of the North as well. It all comes down to what fits a person better.

I currently live in the Southeast; I prefer the Northeast and plan on moving back to Pennsylvania. The heat and humidity are stifling here....I'll take the snow anyday and then there's the people......

It's cheaper.........for now. The market may catch up with the demand at some point, especially in Atlanta, Dallas and Houston. It's also warmer, but not in a way that I PERSONALLY prefer, but I know I may change my thinking when/if I'm 80!!
