1 - Population - Closer to Boston
2 - Wealth - Closer to Boston
3 - Prestige - Hmm, do you mean in name recognition or something else? In America I would say somewhere in between the two, internationally closer to NYC
4 - Economy -Closer to Boston

SF is a notch above Boston in all of the categories. But, NYC is miles ahead of SF.

The size gap is just so large between NYC and the others.

All 3 are cool cities though.

100% true.

kidphilly, you tried to elude to this in the other thread, but San Francisco is on a higher plane than almost everywhere else in the US as far as global conciousness and image.

It doesnt mean that other cities suck or are bad. In fact its the complete opposite, the cities similar to the Bay Area in size are excellent places overall.

To anyone who's actually been to these cities, San Francisco is obviously more like Boston than it is like New York City.

Definitely more similar to Boston; this coming from a Bostonian who lives in SF.

I'm actually glad it's not like NYC.

I'm not sure what's really similar between NYC and SF. Dramatically different climates, population, economy, level of density, architecture, etc. The only generic qualifier is that they're both dense cities that are over 150 years old. I suppose they both have mixed-use development, but so does Zurich.

Boston and SF are far more aligned population-wise, economically, square miles, etc. Although, I suppose they're quite different demographically.

Similar to boston, minus the university culture and historic neighborhoods. Some noteworthy and glaring differences like A bit more bums and standoffish provincial natives.

Boston is essentially a bit more well polished then sf and a bit more classy but I would say boston is the closest thing to sf on the east cost.

The city that sf is most similar to is seattle.
