Which areas do you prefer? "Fast growth" is an area that grows rapidly in a short period of time. "Big growth" is an area that grows slower, but has numerically more people already.
Examples of Fast growth:
DuPage County, IL
Gwinnett County, GA
Douglas County, CO
Examples of Big growth:

Both components need to be evaluated in tandem to get a full picture
It is actually the same place but in two different stages of it's growth. You don't usually get to be big unless at some point you grew fast.
I like the fast growth period because there is always somthing new to look forward to. The only downside is that everything ends up looking the same (same architecture) Look at Las Vegas. Every house and shopping center in town is white stucco with a red tile roof. In Suffolk County every house (at one time) was a colonial or ranch with ceder shake siding with a white roof and white shutters.

I wouldn't call DuPage County "fast growth", it barely grew in the last census, Will County is probably a better example of fast growth county in Chicagoland.

Right! But shouldn't this thread be about cities and not counties? Aurora went from 142,000 to 198,000(2010). Fast growth is good for cities with populations less than 250k and slow growth for cities over that. Also how big the city is in sq. miles vs. its population should be taken into account.

....or you can have both: high growth rates and high growth numbers:
Raleigh: Grew 46.3% and by over 127,000 in the 2000s decade to 403,892.
Respectively....
Wake County: Grew 43.5% and by over 273,000 in the 2000s decade to 900,993
