According to the strictest definition, the Southwest solely consists of Arizona and New Mexico. Texas and Oklahoma are in the South. Multiple classifications are considered possible; Southern California might be considered as part of the West Coast and the Southwest. The broad definition of the "Greater Southwest" includes Sonora and Chihuahua, but that is generally a matter of Indian ethnology, so it would likely not be useful for our purposes.
The SOUTHWEST is a region that has a very STRONG LATINO......or INDIAN VIBE thus OKLAHOMA and TEXAS are SOUTHWESTERN and not in any way SOUTHERN STATES.....as a matter of FACT..BEFORE the CIVIL WAR (OKLAHOMA) was a INDY INDIAN NATION....and TEXAS has MORE LATINO FAVOR THAN N.M or ARIZONA...TRY SAN ANTONIO ...CORPUS CHRISTO...EL PASO...FT. WORTH.... and some of the other border cities on for size and LATINO VIBE_____Then add than to the SOUTHWESTERN DEMOGRAPY
What is everybody's opinion on this? Does the Southwestern United States encompass Southern California?
On appearances alone, Southern California is decidedly Southwestern. The Spanish architecture, auto-centric lifestyle, and geographical features are far more reminiscent of Phoenix than San Francisco. The real difference SoCal has from the Southwest is the culture, which is dominated by the cosmopolitan prominence of Los Angeles. However, I think the culture is still quite different from that of the Bay Area or Seattle especially in suburban Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. Maybe California, like Texas, is a state that encompasses multiple regions, SoCal going with the Southwest and NorCal going with the Pacific Northwest?
Southwest is AZ and NM. California is it's own region.
Thinking about it in another way, the freeways and suburbs type culture can be similar. The way people talk in in LA, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Phoenix is the same.
Mabye the Southwest has SoCal nuances, I know people there don't consider themselves in the SW.

Texas is too large to be defined by a "region" of the US. Their is nothing Southwest about North, East, and South East Texas...and area roughly the size of Georgia. It is very much southern...and portions of the Hill Country, and West Texas are SouthWestern in identity. However, South Texas is unique to Texas....a Region entirely of its own.

I forgot the internet format of LARGE PRINTS meaniing YELLING my BAD............southwestern means mexican..mexico , and wasn't Texas stolen from mexico , way back in time once upon a time......
Both rural and east texas are DEEP SOUTHERN area's...... I think that the "last person to be Lynched" was lynched in texas.......
