Canada has awesome natural beauty and is significantly more socially progressive than where I live or the whole of the USA. If I had a job offer, I would definitely move there.

Not me. I'd rather pay for the care I need instead of being taxed to the nines my entire life. How depressing.
When it costs you $800 just to get an x-ray alone get back to me on that. If you're rich, the American system is for you. If you're middle/lower class (which is about 95% of America) the socialist system is far superior and benificial.

You guys are getting juked by your government and you don't even know it. All they have to do is dress it all up and boast about your low taxes. But when **** hits the fan and it's time for Middle Class Aunt Sally to get a heart transplant more often than not her house and life savings are forked over to the U S of A in the process... so who really wins?

To those who haven't seen the film John Q I'd seriously recommend it. It addresses this very issue quite well and to the point!

Well there you go, they are even higher, I didn't want to straight out say that would be higher without knowing for sure, so I hedged my bets.

You do realize that aprox 80% of the population is Insured right? You do realize that the poor qualify for Medicaid which is a socialized program? I cant believe how far off you are. If you are insured with a half decent plan you should not have to pay $800 for an X-Ray.

Doesn't surprise me though, your Healthcare economics training came from John Q which is a "BASED" on a true story movie that was mostly fiction to make a point about the ills of the US system. I cant believe how ignorant people are.

Please also read the HealthCare reform bill that passed congress and was signed into law by President Obama as well before you claim to understand the HealthCare system. I have personally read every single word because I'm a Public Policy CPA/CMA for a Healthcare company so when you reach that level start to comment in the meanwhile refrain from spewing your ignorance.

Obviously we haven't read anything of the sort, and we didn't claim to be experts, but I pose to you: have you read all of the documentation on British or Canadian taxes? You seem to be almost banning any lay person from a discussion with an expert/professional, which is kinda not cool. Also, don't get so damn angry. Nobody is 'spewing..ignorance'. To be honest, if you don't have a comprehensive knowledge of all sides, you can't say we are wrong.

I know that for some reason a National Health Service scares the crap out of most Americans and they view is as some kind of socialism, and as they've been bread to see socialism as the worst things is the world (which in theory, it isn't) you are against it. You're informed on your system and we aren't. I'm barely informed on any system, but I suspect you're not either on Britain's or Canada's.

I lived in Canada for many years and attended Grad School in Toronto and am a registered CMA in Ontario with the IMA. So yes I have a decent grasp on the Canadian tax system. In addition I have worked on projects in The Netherlands, Turkey and Lebanon in the past year and a half. Britain I have done zero work in, so you will never see me comment on your system.

What I will not do though is insult another country's health care system and I made sure not to do so in my post. So no I do not fear socialized medicine like many Americans, heck I live in a state (Massachusetts) that has a Universal Health care law in effect since 2006, a law that was crafted at the same time and in consult with The Netherlands.

What I do not appreciate is someone passing themselves off as informed when they watched a sensationalized Hollywood movie, do you not find that a bit off putting?

OK, fair enough, you know about Canada too, and that's great, you are fine to say which you think is better. As for being sure to not insult another country's health care system, as if they are such sacred things, you take no such care in branding us all ignorants. We didn't brand ourselves as experts, and all ThroatGuzzler was commenting on was what he'd seen. Not everyone is as cynical as us and some people don't really think people can flat out lie in films.

I was just dishing out my opinion and perspective on the American system. Did I have to be a qualified medical professional to voice my opinion? I'll be sure to attain my degree before criticizing next time, I apologize.

Btw, you sound an awful lot like Cart24 or whatever his name was. And was that figure of 80% pulled out of thin air? Even then, there's still 20% of the population uninsured which equates to about 60M people.. no small feat.
