What big cities have the most mixed race people? I am talking about people who are the product of interracial relationships and willfully identify as being of two or more races. In terms of raw numbers, the title probably belongs to NYC. But this is only because NYC is the biggest city in America. However, what big cities have the greatest overall percentage of mixed people in relation to the overall population?

I'd say the L.A. area. There are so many hybrids there, you find yourself trying to figure out the race of the person.

For example, many mestizos have mated with whites, producing castizos. These are the types that at first glance from a distance might look white, but when you see them close up, you clearly see the Indian looking cheek bones, slightly slanted eyes, etc. Many of them do have light-colored hair, especially as children, as well as blue or green eyes. That said, their cheek bones and eyes, and even palate/bite to an extent give them away.

Well, here is the 2000 Census data release on folks who consider themselves "two or more races", which by now is outdated as many more people answered so in 2010. You'll see the highest numbers follow the highest cities by general population, but percentage-wise Honolulu is tops, followed mostly by cities in California and New Jersey:

Tacoma, Washington has one of the largest multiracial populations. I would say pretty much anything on the west coast has a high percentage of mixed race people.

I disagree. Out here in the Baltimore/Washington corridor, the suburbs have more mixed people and interracial couples and the big cities out here tend to be hypersegregated. Silver Spring, outside of DC, is much more diverse and has more interracial couples and mixed people per capita than DC which has always had an extremely strict White/Black divide for decades. Mixed people and interracial couples almost do not exist in DC. Being racially ambiguous and mixed looking in most parts of Baltimore and DC is like having three heads. From what I've seen, Philly and NYC on the East Coast have a lot of mixed people in certain areas. All races seem to blend together in many parts of the Bay Area as well where you can't tell what many people's background may be.

Honestly I'd say the Bay Area... nowhere else do I see anywhere near the number of mixed people, and it's FAR from being limited to black and white. You see latino pacific islanders, black latinos, asian latinos, black middle easterners, white asians, etc. etc. I have friends who fall into all of the above groups...
