It was based on some sort of analysis of what locations are commonly posted on Flickr... Which would skew it towards North America and Europe.
Still kind of surprising that Pioneer Square in Portland is #25...Although it could be explained by everyone who buys a new I-phone or camera from a retailer nearby and immediately wants to try it out--with the most logical photo-op being Pioneer Square. I mean that was probably the first photo I took with my I-phone after getting it from the Verizon kiosk a couple months back... Just sayin’...

I believe this should be the most photographed cities, not places on Earth.
So Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai etc are neglible. Not worth photographed than say, Portland, OR.
I have no idea why Austin and Philly are ranked that high. The writer must be American.
Is Flickr not big in Asia? I find it hard to believe Tokyo or Hong Kong doesn't get photographed more than Portland. Not saying anything bad about Portland, but there's no way in hell their tourist industry is larger than either of those cities.
