If you're a person who is respectful of other races and you hear others claiming you and your city are incredibly racist, of course you're going to be defensive. That said, I've definitely heard my share of racism from the blue-collar bunch around the city (though I think every city is this way--I've certainly heard it when meeting friends in NYC).

Hahaha, thank you for bringing this up! Most who are college grads, white-collar workers, etc. seem to be a bit cooler on Florida, but anyone who is a) Blue Collar b) Addicted to oxycontin or c) both seems to think that Florida is some sort of mythical paradise. Eventually they move down to some part of Central Florida, realize it sucks, and then come back up here and then talk about how crappy winter is here and that they're going to go back to Florida again someday.
People up there have a real distorted view of Florida. I witness this even in Hollywood, when Ben Afflecks character in The Town fled to Florida. It'll save them and Floridians lots of time, if there was some disclaimer on moving to Florida. Florida is filled to the brim of whiny Northerners.

I knew it. I just knew that this dude had that idea in his head the whole time. I'm almost certain you're referencing the discussion we had a few weeks ago, and you know that's not what I was saying.

If you for one minute think we deserve to go around hanging our heads in shame because we have sprawl and took an ass-kicking during the recession, all I can say is don't hold your breath buddy.

And we're supposed to be the delusional ones?
Before you lay an egg, for the record, you seemed to be one of the Atlanta people with common sense. But a great many of the natives (and seemingly a majority of the most active posters here) truly place Atlanta on a much higher level than it deserves. More than I've witnessed from any of its peer cities. I'm only going off of my experiences. I can't speak for anyone but me.

No one's saying y'all should be ashamed of anything, but far too many of the Atlanta posters are completely out of touch with reality. I call it how I see it. Take it how you like it. Hate it or love it.

Default Houston and Atlanta posters

It is sooo much nicer on this website when the Houston and Atlanta posters just shut up and give their jaws a break!! Maybe it would help if no one responded to their posts.

I think Houston is very underrated and the natives on cd are only defending there city against negative biases. This city is one of americas biggest secrets....on the flipside i feel that Atlanta is severly overrated on this site. A lot of the natives(not all of them) make it seem like its the end all,be all of the SOUTHEAST---WRONG! I do enjoy both cities however its somethin about HTown that gets my blood flowin whenever i visit.

Cities don't brag, people do. And with that in mind, it's usually the same 3 or 4 people on C-D making all the bad noise about Houston, Atlanta, or whatever city is getting puffed/bashed. These people don't speak for the city at large, and usually tend to misrepresent and exaggerate their opinions, presenting said opinions as fact.

This is stupid. I've seen "representatives" of every major city in America puff out their chest and brag on this site, and even some of the smaller cities. That's kind of the whole point of C-D it would seem. I can't say it enough.... the "reality" concocted on C-D and actual reality are two very different things.

When I saw that movie, I laughed because of who he was and how he always wanted to go to Florida...perfect example.

Yep...Florida tends to attract the weirdos, rednecks, and malcontents from other states, and all of there weird ways gets put upon the shoulders of Florida, and shapes the states weird image. They have hundreds of segments of "Weird Floridian News" in plenty of newspapers from all over the US. Most of the weird people down there are probably non-natives. Ted Bundy is a prime example of a Outcast non-Floridian who lived down there and did his dirty work down there. He was from Vermont and lived all over the US, but will forever be associated with Florida.

You can throw the Anthony family in to that category as well for moving to Orlando from up north and having a daughter, Casey, who would grow up to "kill" her daughter.
