never been to Houston, really have NO desire to go to Houston in large part because of the over-inflated opinion of the place that Houston homers constantly trumpet on this site. I live in a hot, humid, swampy, buggy city in Georgia. Why would I want to go to one in Texas? Besides, when i need a big city fix, I'm within 4-5 hours of a half dozen major league cities. Even Texas can't claim that. I have met some nice people from Houston though and have an overall higher opinion of Houston than Dallas.
THIS IS GONNA BRING ALL THE BATS OUT THE CAVE.......but i feel houston brags way way way too much on this forum. We get it, youre the fourth largest city, we know oil is up in them there hills, we get you have industries and shopping and freeways and that damn TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER. What I dont think you have is enough billboards or promotion money to market your city, because clearly people from the visitor and covention bureau come here to cheerlead.
Looks like we have a Texas hater.. I can sit here and list things "All people" from Atlanta brag about, but that would just be disrespectful. I like this thread and all, but its turning into a "Bash the city you don't like" kinda thing.

how lame to not want to visit a place because some people online likes it too much.

Id like to say that being fair, Ive been to Houston, and I do see a great city, but I dont think great cities have to pump and pump and pump how great they are. True there are some Atlantans that toot the horn way too much, but Im not from that school of folk.

Same with people from Houston. Not all people from H-Town brag. And to tell the truth, its not always bragging...like some above posters said, its defending.
1. NYC - I excuse them because it's the most awesome city ever.
2. SF - They certainly have some bragging rights, but they think way too highly of themselves for their lower position in the pecking order amongst world cities! SF above LA, really? LOL!
3. Atlanta - Why?
4. DC - Again, why?
As a Los Angeleno, I feel like we don't take our city as serious as the posters from the above city. But a little civic pride in LA wouldn't hurt.
In some cases, yes. If someone is like, "who has the most dense downtown?" or something like that, then it's pretty clear-cut.
But then if you look at recent polls and discussions here, it's been stuff like:
Q: "Which city has a better economy, San Francisco or Phoenix?"
A1: "New York. Because we're the best of everything. California is for sissies and Phoenix doesn't really exist. The only reason you'd want to live in either of these states is because you're Mexican, because everyone in these cities is an illegal."
A2: "Philadelphia. Why doesn't Philadelphia get included in any of these polls? We're the best educated, biggest, most sophisticated, safest, cleanest, and best city in America, even people in rural China will tell you they dream of living here but they've never even heard of Phoenix or San Francisco!"
lol so true, one thread was DC Vs. SF. and it became a SF vs Philadephia,

+1
I like Houston, but the way some of them brag on here, you'd swear the roads all all paved with gold, pixie dust rains down everyday, unicorns frolic about, and ambrosia flows down Buffalo Bayou. They do get bashed a lot, so many of the posters have a chip on their shoulder, and are defensive, and paranoid when people aren't in love with the city the way they are. IRL, the only people I met who were extremely impressed with the city were people who never really travel outsde of Texas, people from smaller towns who think they hit the big time when they moved there, or folks from California who were happy they could actually afford a house there. Other than that, it's pretty 'meh' to most people. Good restaurants, friendly people, but still, 'meh'.
The same could be argued for a lot of the Atlanta posters here. Replace 'Californians' with 'New Yorkers/Northeasterners' and replace 'people from surrounding smaller cities in TX/OK/LA/AR' with 'GA/AL/TN/SC' and voilà ...Combine that with the bitter stormfront rejects who are angry about Atlanta being popular with blacks who constantly fight with the delusional posters who are convinced Atlanta is some utopian paradise, and you have a recipe for disaster.
DC, NYC, and the SF posters are pretty damn smug on here too.
