As a native of San Francisco, I have to say that it is one of the world's greatest cities and there is a lot of THERE there.

However, one thing that does suck about San Francisco is the extremely smug attitude of its residents, especially towards other cities in the region.

Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose are all cool cities in their own right. But their standing and image suffers greatly because they are in the shadow of San Francisco. If they were anywhere else in this country, except maybe by New York, they would be recognized as the cool cities that they are in their own right.

Thanks for stating this. I've thought it for a long while I just happen not to be a poster who submits my every thought.

"Atlanta's just mad at Boston because..."

Ignorant.

This is the truth, but I can't single out every last person who "brags" about something there city has, if its something a mass majority of people are stating.

Atlanta.

Atlanta boosters remind me of the people who cant swim but push other down just to boost themselves up. Certainly not all of them but a noticable amount

The problem with Santa Monica's Beach is you have to take a good shower very fast once you get out, or you will get an almighty rash.

Funny, I never had that problem... and I always waited till I got home to have a soapy shower (I'd rinse at the stations just so that I wouldn't have to deal with as much sand).

Santa Monica and Venice are some pretty groaty beaches. If I am going to the beach in LA, it has to be clean, some where like Malibu.

Santa Monica, is one of the most polluted beaches in California. .. The pier helps act as a cesspool. http://www.santamonicabay.org/smbay/ProblemsSolutions/WaterQuality/tabid/67/Default.aspx (broken link)

Santa Monica & Venice are both filthy and pretty nasty. Smarter Angelinos would know better than to actually swim there. I never go there to actually cool off in the water. There are much better beaches 5miles north and 10-20 miles south of them.

I don't think 'I' brag about NY alot. I just state my opinions on my city and 'defend' certain opinions some of you have. I think sometimes it's automatically seen as elitism/snooty but it's not (or sometimes I don't mean to come off that way). If I was from. . Kansas or some small town people wouldn't mind it. But since I'm from NY it's like "Ugh he's obnoxious, New Yorkers always think..." and then that's how it starts.

That's where I think our 'attitudes' came from too. We just stopped caring about what people 'thought' about us and said 'F*ck it'. I don't know like someone said, polls, stats etc can do the bragging for my city. I just like to 'defend' it as well.

I never brag about NYC on this site.. I just don't find reason to. Now when it comes to Philly where I currently live, I find myself "educating" people who are misinformed and have a hard time accepting/giving Philly the credit it deserves on this site. However much like NYC, Philly speaks for itself. So I don't spend more than a post or two "educating" if people dont get it.. Then I keep it moving.
