If you like great skiing in some of the most beautiful areas in the West, than Idaho is a great choice, less crowds and some great mountains and amenities and vibrant and fun ski towns like Sun Valley/Ketchum, Sandpoint and lake, McCall and lake, and even Boise. Coeur d'Alene was once ranked as the best ski town in the USA. Sun Valley is kind of like the queen of skiing in America, it was the first major ski resort and the chair lift was invented there and Ketchum is a great ski town to just hang out in year round. Colorado is great, but there is nothing like being on top of Brundage Mountain and looking out over snow covered wilderness and a glacial lake at the base of the mountains.

Colorado obviously wins in Quantity..not sure about quality.

Quantity does not equal quality. The number of resorts just reflects the fact that the ski areas in Colorado are more developed.

Best Towns to shop- Probably Colorado
Best Towns to Ski- Utah/Colorado
Best Towns To Vacation- Utah/Colorado
Best Location to Major cities- Definitely Utah
Best Transit to the Ski Areas- Definitely Utah. UTA runs buses to ski resorts in the winter from Salt Lake.

I'm biased, but I prefer Utah.

Very true indeed, but CO doesn't lack in Quality at all! Out of all those resorts, there has to be many that are quality resorts.
