News Release: GDP by Metropolitan Area, Advance 2010, and Revised 2007–2009

There are also revisions for 2009 which show lower GDPs than previously released, the economy was just worse than thought.

So based on the recently evaluated Mercer and Burlington County commuter data above is the changes in red, basically nearly the same size in GDP (well give or take 200 Billion) as combining the #s 2, 3, 4 and or LA, DC/Balt, Bay Area together. Also the same size of a combined Chicago, DFW, Houston, Boston, and Atlanta (even a bit of Miami thrown in for good measure)

New York Metro does not mean CSA. Mercer County is part of the CSA but not the metro. Nice try tho.

KidPhilly, wouldn't the Bethlehem, Allentown, Easton area be included in the figures above? Or even greater Atlantic City?

Philadelphia is not and will not become part of the New York metropolitan area. Not now or not in 100 years.

"UA" perhaps. MSA, or CSA? No.

No MSA this census but the commuter data already supports a CSA connection. Burlington County NJ will be the one to watch in the next Census, not sure what they do is a county has a commuter rate of 25% with two seperate MSAs.

UA is already a done deal.

I have to admit it KidPhilly is right. His stats are more updated version than from the 2000 census that 19Moncliar posted. If Mercer County actually reaches the MSA threshold than its very likely that New York and Philly will combine into one single CSA. But I always thought that once Mercer County got absorb into the New York CSA, it was only a matter of time before the Philly Area gets absorb by the New York CSA also.

Nice try

Boston can have a tier by itself, but it would be below Houston and DFW

There is a reason why These stats are done by MSA

You are correct!

When you look at the CSA's for Boston, SF Bay, and D.C./Baltimore you see that there is a level of connectivity between the big cities in those regions and their suburbs. It's all one area and functions as one area. New York and Philadelphia are two opposing sides of an area close together, they don't function the same way. How many of those 22 million New Yorkers actully go to Philadelphia annually for it to feel like a freeflow singular metro? I know for Providence its almost a annual ritual to go to Boston every now and then.

Forget Mercer County, NJ. Philadelphia should set its sights on Berks County, PA instead. That'd add another ~400,000 to its CSA.

By the way, Pittsburgh just leapfrogged Charlotte and Tampa in the GDP standings.
