Which U.S. city has the most radical political groups (past or present), the most radical political and social theorists (past or present), and the most radical political movements (past or present)? I'm throwing my hometown into the running for this one. I would also consider radical politics as expressed through art and music.
Atlanta Atlanta Atlanta what more can I say!!!!!!!!!!
Houston as well but I can't say any names this movement has recently start,a matter of fact when I came to citydata this person is powerhouse and is a political and economical movement for the city of Houston lol!!!!!!!!
What do you mean by radical??? By posting Noam Chomsky, I am assuming that you mean "farthest on the left." If that is what you mean than i have to say San Francisco or Portland.

I suppose anti-establishment. The Black Anarchists Network of Community Organizers would be an example of a "radical" group. I'm not sure the Socialist Party would fall into that camp, but since they're not mainstream, I guess they'd also qualify.
How is Portland "radical?" I've heard people describe Portland as progressive, but never radical.
For large cities it's San Francisco and nowhere else even comes close.
I would say that Oakland is more radical than San Francisco (or at least has a longer history of radicalism). I don't think of San Francisco as having a lot of "radical" politics. I think of SF as having liberal/progressive politics. Having a tolerant population that's eco and LGBT-friendly is different from having a large segment of your population that's anti-establishment. Even if people aren't picking up shotguns, I don't sense a hostility to the establishment in as many people as I do in, say, Brooklyn.
Bay Area... you had the hippies, the greens, the black panthers all centered there.
