If you're trying to get paid by writing novels and short stories, then no one single city is going to be the magic bullet for you. The only way is going to be by spending hours upon thankless hours of time actually writing and familiarizing yourself with the publishing process.

This is a sort of out of the box suggestion but UNESCO designated Iowa City as the only City Of Literature in the United States so far.

That's due to the famous Iowa City Writer's Workshop. If you want to get published, NYC is still the best place to be.

See the thing is writers live everywhere. That's why literature is so diverse and intricate and good. There isn't any one place that's a writing mecca. If there was, we wouldn't have the variety we have.

That said, I do have dreams about moving to Dublin or Edinburgh to write.
