are we talking about the urban parks themselves, or their surroundings? if we're talking purely about the parks, there is no equal in the midwest to forest park in st. louis. within the park is the st. louis art museum, the history museum, the science center, the muny opera theater, the zoo (among the best in the country), boat rentals, countless jogging/bike trails, some restaurants and bars, 3 golf courses and other recreational amenities. not to mention it's 500 acres larger than new york's central park. add to that its remarkable history (site of the 1904 world's fair). lincoln park may have a great backdrop, but it does not hold a candle in terms of raw amenities and cultural significance. and the park's proximity to the central west end, one of the premier urban neighborhoods in the country, makes it a sure leader in this category.
Lincoln Park is excellent but I also really liked Millenium Park in Chicago. The Cloud Gate sculpture is awesome, plus it has cool fountains, a nice pavillion, peaceful gardens, etc. And it is extremely urban. Immediately adjacent to the huge skyscrapers in the loop.
I think Millenium Park is considered a part of Grant Park, which also contains the Art Institute of Chicago and the famous Buckingham Fountain. Chicago has really awesome parks!
Lincoln park is very nice, I have to admit. WRSP in downtown Indy boasts the zoo, IMAX, Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions and Indiana State Museum. It's also quasi unique as it is the only urban state park in the country.

I agree Millennium Park is awesome, but its a totally different type of park. MP is almost like an interactive artwork, whereas Lincoln Park is more along the lines of Central Park in purpose. Both beautiful

I'd say the Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis can give ANY park a run for its money, and I'm including Lincoln Park in Chicago! I'm not really sure why it's not being mentioned other than the fact that most people probably have never been to it.
The "problem" Minneapolis has in these types of discussions is that it isn't one particular park that you can point to. The chain of lakes are a series of connected parks. Collectively there is almost nothing like it elsewhere in America because most cities don't have a chain of lakes running through the heart of the city. But it is more than one park.
