Lately NYC civic leaders and investors have been very vocal in their desire to grow the industry there. They've even invited Stanford, MIT and other top engineering schools to submit plans for a NYC campus, which is a very smart thing to do.

I admire that tenacity.

Otherwise, Boston is a perennial VC hotspot. There are tons of cities tho that have scenes.

Boston is a pretty easy 2nd, New York is pretty up there, others are Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles and San Diego.

Depends on the area of interest. I know TMAC had a report in another thread that ranked world cities on innovation and sciences and think there were only 5 in the US with the highest marks/category (Boston, SF, NYC, DC, and Philly). Not sure where the link is though

Philly does well in many areas of health sciences, also some IT related areas. Some major research institutions in the region as well. But to me today on this category would be behind Boston and SF and likely DC. More similar to NYC, though the size of NYC likely places it ahead overall as well.

Will see if I can find the rankings, it was based on funding, innovation, institutions, and world impact related from my recollection.

Depends some rankings have Boston as more innovative than the Bay but on VC money as the criteria believe it is the Bay by a fairly wide margin

Really? The only thing I can think of is if you split up the Bay Area and were talking about biotech exclusively, otherwise I think it's the Bay Area by a large margin.
