LA is far more expensive, but don't let the prices discourage you, if you really like LA i recommend you try it out, (LA and Miami are very different, yet similar (weather: same temps, MIA humid, LA dry; cosmopolitan; many things to do; etc)
LA is more expensive by far. Miami, and Florida as a whole, has a better cost of living than California. Housing in certain parts of Miami can be a bit pricey, but that's mainly around the beach areas. All of LA is expensive.
Also Florida has no state income tax (and lower taxes in general) so that's a HUGE advantage.
Property Tax rates are lower in California than in Fla. Also, better paying jobs are more plentiful in Los Angeles as compared to Miami. Granted given LA's high cost of real estate the working class/blue collar class is squeezed.
But if you have education/skills the higher income/sales taxes in Calif. are not a serious deterrent.
