I love this thread and the fact that it keeps going simply(since 2011!) for the fact that everyone points out that except for maybe the Bronx Zoo--basically few zoos are even close to the ghetto.
The two zoos in the Twin Cities metro (Como Park Zoo and the Minnesota Zoo) are both in very affluent areas. The Como Park Zoo (which is a Victorian-era zoo) is in a relatively wealthy neighborhood of Saint Paul, and the Minnesota Zoo is in the suburb of Apple Valley surrounded by McMansions.

It's like the OP only went to the Bronx Zoo and was like, "Wow, zoos are in the ghetto usually, eh?"
Bronx Zoo isn't in the ghetto though--it borders the ghetto on one side and isn't on the others. I don't know how that places it within the ghetto.
I think the only answers were Akron, Baltimore, Jackson, and Boston. Any others?

Even being anywhere near a ghetto is pretty rare though--and yes, you're right that probably most of the surrounding area of the Bronx near the zoo isn't a ghetto.
Most zoos nationwide are in civic parks that tend to be near nice or more expensive real estate in general--just about every zoo in the Western US is in a nice area.

The Bronx Zoo is definitely not in one of the better areas of the city, to the east is decent and gets a bit better going a few more blocks. To the west and southwest is at the least poverty stricken, probably should be called a ghetto.

Well you also have Fordham University and Arthur Ave/Little Italy to the West. To the South is pretty poverty stricken though. My older brother had to rent a room with a family on Bathgate Ave his Freshman year at FU because they never got his housing paperwork haha.
St. Louis has a very nice zoo in a very nice area of town.
