WHICH OF THE US CITIES LISTED IN THE POLL STAND THE BEST CHANCE OF MOVING INTO THE TOP 20 US DESTINATIONS LIST?

Granted, this was last year, I doubt it has really changed all that much.

If you have any supporting argument, please share

Also, does anything on the top 20 list above surprise you to see???

Some of the cities on the poll are already destinations. These were the top 20 most visited cities in which some (like Denver) are home to major airports they serve as a major layover destinations for people travelling west and east. I think Tampa is the only true "destination" on the list. Phoenix when it reaches its full potential and becomes a theme park area. Most o the rest are cool medium major cities that are cool to visit but not nessasarily a destination.

When the streetcar is finally up and running linking the riverfront, downtown, and the incredibly historic and beautiful Over The Rhine, Cincinnati has the potential to become a major tourist attraction.

Why is Boston so low? They're pretty high on the international visitors list and IMO, that's a better indicator of how desired a city is to visit.

Houston is a bigger tourist destination than Miami and New Orleans? Really?

The title of the article is misleading. Just because people are staying in hotels doesn't mean they "love" to visit the city on the list.

I doubt it very much. This article uses only hotel bookings, which is no indication of who is actually a tourist, or might just be there to visit family, passing through or on a business trip.

Yeah, must be mostly conventions.

I think that's a very plausible explanation. For example, no offense to Houston or Atlanta, but it's pretty clear to me that they're just not on the same tourism level of cities like Miami and New Orleans.

Cities like Dallas and Austin are also much more business oriented than cities like Boston, Philadelphia and Seattle that have a good tourism/business mixture.
